Right from school we’ve been taught about the different seasons of the year and I personally love winters! That said nobody really mentioned that there was an analogy to these seasons with life itself! The 4 major Seasons of Life are Summer, Autumn, Winter & Spring; and I am going to speak to you about Autumn. Unlike the various seasons of the year, Seasons of Life are unpredictable and do not have a fixed duration. The transitions between seasons occur as a result of our responses, reactions and decisions made to situations that we face in life.
Autumn essentially is that phase of life where you are struggling to achieve your goals and objectives. It is a phase when no matter what you do, things just don’t work out for you. Your confidence is crushed, you have no control over the circumstance and all you can do is lie helpless, hoping for a ray of sunshine. You turn into the Pessimist of the Year. You have feelings of Anger, Disappointment, and Frustration amongst others. Autumn is inevitable; life cannot be always hunky-dory. But it is our irresponsible behaviour that aggravates what Autumn already has in store for us. What we don’t realise is that there is no one but ourselves who are responsible for getting us into this phase of life in the first place.
I personally feel that Christian life a lot of times can feel like Autumn. I am not trying to imply that the life of a practising Christian is full of struggles but I certainly do not endorse Prosperity Gospel the way a lot of our fellow Believers preach. While there may be times when you are put into a difficult situation as God’s way of testing you, we end up aggravating it even further owing to our uncalled response and reaction. We try so hard to get out of the situation by relying on our own wisdom, knowledge and power that we forget to go to God and cast our burdens on him. This only worsens the already difficult situation that we are in.
Corinthians 1:13 says, “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
The Seasons of Life are inevitable. That said, there is always a possibility that Autumn will hit you more times than you could ever imagine. What is important is how you react to it. The verse clearly mentions that you will not be subjected to something that you cannot handle. This brings us back to point that it is none but ourselves responsible for aggravating Autumn to a state beyond our control. If you are truly a practising Christian and take your problems to the Lord, you will see a change in the way you react to Autumn. You will have discernment to make better decisions to cope with such situations and you may possibly even witness Autumn much lesser than what you used to.
Remember, Autumn is as necessary as any of the other Seasons of Life. What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. And the recipe for it is mentioned in detail in the Bible. Try it out 🙂
